We’ve had a lot of people ask how we’re doing.
Tropical Storm Irene hit Vermont on August 28, 2011 and parts of the state were absolutely devastated. Many communities were isolated for days and weeks by impassable roads and bridges, but our area faired relatively well. Wind-driven, significant rainfall caused numerous washouts and countless blow-downs all across our Coles Pond Sledders’ trail network.
A group of our most experienced volunteers have been working intensely on the challenges involved in our needed repairs. We have many minor and several major gaps that require extensive machine excavation, dirt-work, new culverts and bridges. It’s going to be extremely difficult work, both physically and financially.
Our goal is to have no closures and to have all of our trails passable. While some may be a bit rough around the edges, connections will be made. With the expertise of our groomer operators, and a little snow, our trails will be amazing, as usual!
We’ve had people ask how they can help. While many have expressed a desire, for most, volunteering time is simply not possible. If you can donate any materials, that would be fantastic. We could use things such as lumber, hardware and the like. If you are willing and able to make a monetary contribution, it will be put to good use and greatly appreciated. Please note that your donation may be tax deductible.
If you have materials to donate, please contact our President to discuss what you have.
